TECHNIQUE & COACHING
BACK-STEPPING LUNGE
Layer 1
• Right leg, step back, lunge, rise, change sides
• Step, lunge, rise, step, change sides
• Chest is proud
• A long step back, down and up, down and up
• Speed it up, lunge, change sides, lunge,
change sides
• Back knee drops to 90 degrees
• Front leg parallel to the floor
PROPULSION BACK-STEPPING LUNGE/
SIDE SQUAT COMBO
Layer 1
• Lunge, lunge, Side Squat, right and left
• Stay here or speed it up with a jump, make it
faster
• Lunge, lunge, squat and squat
• When you land, bend your knees
• Option: If this is too difficult, squat right and
left
RUN & BACK-STEPPING LUNGE/SIDE SQUAT
COMBO
Layer 1
• Run forward
• 2 Single Lunges, right leg, then left
• Long stride, turn to the back of the room
• Face front, 2 Lateral Squats with the arms out
and in
• Run forward
• Levels: run forward, fast, slow or march
• Whatever gets you warm today
• Jog and turn around and face the back
Layer 2
• Add the Jump to the combo, 2 Lunges, 2
Lateral Squats
• If the first combo worked for you, stay with
that; squat out and in
• Combination: Jump it, to the back and to the
side of the room

cater to all participants. This Warmup hits all the
major muscles with easy-to-follow moves and sets
the tone for the workout ahead. Be enthusiastic
